Influences and style
Rebecca's first "music teacher" was "Fraulein Maria" singing "Do Re Mi" as she listened over and over to the vinyl soundtrack for "The Sound of Music" matching her pre-school voice to what she heard. Her childhood musical tastes were liberally seeded and set early by the lyrics, intervals, and deliciously un-sanitized sounds of 60's and 70's singer songwriters whose songs ruled the radio even through the early 80s...and it shows.
Her vocal style is both earthy and ethereal. Her lyrics are at times confessional and at times ambiguous, able to connect with listeners on several different levels at one time, and range from compelling to humorous, warmly wrapped in chords which can be lullaby simple at times and very intensely colored and emotive at others. If she had to choose a genre, perhaps Folk / Americana / Alternative / Inspirational - - you decide. Rebecca shares songs and story in coffeehouse settings where people meet with one another over good food and meaningful conversation, where casual listeners can tune in and connect when something in a song captivates. The band is available for house concerts and special events in venues large and small. A program will be specifically tailored for each occasion. Bringing such a similar experience into forgotten places where such luxuries are not often afforded has been particularly rewarding. If you would be interested in a traveling coffeehouse experience for an organization or community in need of meaningful connection and encouragement, the band would be willing to work with your organization to bring that about. More recently, Rebecca has expanded her services to studio work doing background vocals for hire. Please use the Contact Page to inquire. |
About Rebecca
|
Her diverse day-jobs include being a long-time wife, mother of four. With two of the children grown, she's even a mother-in-law and grandma. With two still at home, her house is a hub of activity and relationships. She is a very part-time fitness coach, home-organizer both in her own busy home and in others' homes for help or on rare occasions for hire. Recently, she spent 9 months voluntarily assisting booking and promoting other bands for a small venue, gaining invaluable experiences. In her former life she was a flight attendant, and admits she has never quite gotten over it.
In addition to writing songs, she also enjoys writing, working with clay, fabric, and paint. Some of those items along with music discs will eventually be for sale on this site and at live events. When she needs a "selah" she loves moving slowly about her home cooking, cleaning, and simplifying, while listening to audio-books. |
